Noted editor from Emporia to visit Marion
Pulitzer Prize winning editor William Allen White will be portrayed as the featured program at Marion's Kansas Day Celebration at 1 p.m. Jan. 29 at McGillicuddy's Restaurant.
Frederick Krebs will portray the late Emporia editor, sponsored by the Kansas Humanities Council's "History Alive" program.
Krebs, portraying White, will be introduced by Marion County newspaper publisher Bill Meyer.
Mr. White enjoyed the national spotlight for decades as he molded public opinion with his books, stories, and editorials in the Emporia Gazette.
A Republican party stalwart and leader, he was a close friend of President Teddy Roosevelt, Governor Alf Landon, and many other notable personalities. White ran for governor of Kansas, once, but was defeated.
The public is invited to come hear the portrayal of the world's most famous small town editor/philosopher as he reflects on politics and his remarkable life.
Reservations are due Jan. 22 and are $10 per plate which includes a Kansas roast beef dinner. Call Janet Bryant (382-3418) for a reservation before Wednesday.
