Northwest of Durham: Wiebe family enjoys basket dinner

For the last week of December, the weather was very warm and unusually nice for winter.
The Isaac Wiebe family had a basket dinner Sunday at the school. Ken and Sandy Wiebe picked up Helen Wiebe from Moundridge Manor to enjoy the day with family.
About 28 family members were at the Harry Wedel home Christmas Day for a basket dinner.
Dale and Kathryn Schmidt of Clarksdale, Miss., were Christmas Day overnight guests of her sister, Linda and Wendell Wedel. On Monday they and two sisters, Junior and Jeanette Giesbrecht of Glenn, Calif., and Ron and Margaret Jantz of Burns, came to enjoy breakfast together at Main Street Café.
Mike and Mich Rhodes and daughter of Bradley, Ark., came Dec. 21 to enjoy the holidays with family. They were houseguests of Harry and Sheryl Rhodes until Dec. 26. On Christmas Eve the rest of the Rhodes family joined them for dinner and visiting.
Doyle and Kara Wiebe and family returned home Friday after spending about a week visiting her parents, Louis and Edith Warkentin at Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada. This was the first time in about eight years that all the family was together at Christmas. This included two brothers, another sister, and their families. Kara said the weather also was unusually warm — about 40 degrees all the time, and no snow.
Loralee Wiebe's parents, Ron and Lydia Toews of Alberta, Canada, and her three brothers spent the holidays at the Wayne Wiebe home. A group of friends got together Friday evening for a basket supper at the school to visit with the out-of-state visitors. The Wayne Wiebes, Ron Toews, Loren Zeists of Oklahoma, and Steven Unruhs of Scott City were Saturday guests for breakfast at the Clayton Wiebe home.
Harry and Lela Wedel were Sunday dinner guests of the Warren Unruhs. The Unruhs had their family Christmas and Harry and Lela got to see their granddaughter, Marietta and Keith Yost and family of Nebraska.
Wendell and Linda Wedel went Sunday to pick up Amanda Wedel from the Manor for church services. They had dinner at the home of Rick and LaVae Koehn. Other guests were Greg and Charlene Wedel and Cadon, Roy and Nadine Davis and Rhonda, Gerald and Eva Davis, Harold Davis, John and Ethel Steiner, and Matt and Rochelle Mahaffey and Melvin of California.
Saturday evening guests of the Wendell Wedels were Greg and Charlene Wedel and Cadon and Travis and Connie Becker.
Sunday supper guests of Harry and Sheryl Rhodes were Ken and Shelly Giesbrecht and Taylor, Brian and Rebecca Thomas, and Wayne and Loralee Wiebe and family.
Emma Redger, 101, died recently. She was a longtime resident of the community and recently moved to Bethesda Home at Goessel. Services were Monday. Sympathy is extended to the family.
Gary and Shirley Eichelberger and Steve and Rena Gibson of Henson, Idaho, were Friday supper guests of Mark and Barb Unruh. Shirley is Barb's sister and Rena is her niece. They were on their way home after visiting their daughter in Enid, Okla.
Larry and Wanda Koehn, Denise and Titus went Dec. 28 to Swan River, Manitoba, Canada, to visit their daughter, Sara and Tom Penner. They returned home Jan. 3.
Ron and Dora Unruh, the Warren Unruh family, and Mark Unruh family joined the rest of the Duerksen family Dec. 27 for a basket supper at the Goessel City Building. It was hosted by the Milt and Alice Duerksen family. After supper, everyone enjoyed some musical numbers by the children and a food grab box.

Hopefully everyone had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends and the new year will be joyful and prosperous. There were many family celebrations and lots of traveling.
Wendell and Linda Wedel and Greg and Charlene Wedel and Caden were Thursday evening supper guests of Travis and Connie Becker.
Christmas Day dinner guests at the Clayton Wiebe home were the Travis Koehn family, Nelson Wiebe family, Calvin Wiebe family, and Wayne Wiebe family.
The Arden Wiebe family of Texas arrived Wednesday at the Ken Wiebe home. They and the Doyle Wiebe family and Teresa had a family dinner that evening.
Guests Dec. 24 for a family dinner at the home of Marcella Unruh were Gerald and Debbie Unruh, Don and Marlene Sattelfield and family, Gene and Sue Unruh, Ashley and Ryan, Galen Unruh and friend Marlene, and Marty Unruh.
The Melvin Dirks family got together Dec. 24 at the Scout House in Hillsboro. Attending were Bruce and Cheryl Dirks, Heath and Bethany, Gavin and Donalee Johnson, and Adam and Ellyn Johnson of Texahoma, Brad and Joyce Dirks and family and Don and Stephanie Becker, all of Canton, Howard and Charlene Becker, Chris and Jodi Ratzlaff, and Melvin and Vera Dirks.
Ruston and Lydia Dirks went to Murray, Ky., to visit family during the holidays. All went to the home of the Bob Seilers in Michigan for Christmas Day.
Justin and Rebecca Wiebe and family of Bloomfield, Iowa, came Friday to spend until Tuesday at the Ransom Wiebe home. They then went to spend time with the Abe Ensz family at Hillsboro. On Dec. 25 the Merlin Wiebe family, Mark Wiebe family, and Lisa Redger had a family dinner at the Ransom Wiebe home. They got together again Monday evening at the Wiebe home. Brian and Rebecca Thomas were additional guests.
The Ron Unruhs hosted a Christmas gathering Dec. 26. Everyone was able to attend including Jim and Brenda Enns, Darren and Lisa from K-State, Lon and Deb Hiebert and Matt, Mark and Barb Unruh, Katelin and Sarah, Warren and Anita Unruh, Nathan, Kyle, and Jenna, David and Ashley Enns and foster children Aliah, Brandy, Sarah, Lizzie, and Alexi. The Hieberts also were Sunday overnight guests.
The Gene Redger family got together in Newton Christmas Eve for a family dinner.
The Bruce Dirks family went Christmas Day to join other family members at the home of Cheryl's mother, Verna Smith at Hutchinson for dinner and the afternoon.
Christmas Day dinner guests of Richard and Charlotte Wiebe were Gerald and Eva Davis, Roy and Nadine Davis, the Troy Wiebe family, Dalton and Lorna Wiebe, and Rick and LaVae Koehn.
Rick and LaVae Koehn were Saturday evening supper guests of her parents, Roy and Nadine Davis. On Christmas Day evening, the Roy Davises and Rick Koehns took Christmas goodies to Moundridge Manor to enjoy with Amanda Wedel.
Wendell and Linda Wedel went to Fredonia Dec. 24 to spend the evening and Christmas Day with her family, the Mayeskeas.
Sunday evening supper guests of Ken and Sandy Wiebe were Ransom and Lillian Wiebe and the Justin Wiebe family.
The Harry Wedel family got together Wednesday at Main Street Café for dinner. There were about 50 present.
Sunday supper guests at the Harry Rhodes home were Henry Redger, Clayton and Betty Wiebe, Sharon Redger and Jeremy, and Mr. and Mrs. Brandon Redger of DeRidder, La.
The Jason Wiebe family spent Christmas in Rosenort, Manitoba, Canada, visiting at the Melvin Penner home and with other family members.
