Norman Walrafen

Norman O. Walrafen, 83, of Meriden died Oct. 6, 2004, at Deer Park Senior Group Home.

Born May 9, 1921, at Stafford, he was the son of Loren and Millie (Hering) Walrafen.

He had lived in Meriden since 1989, moving there from Emporia.

He was a 1939 graduate of Emporia High School and attended Emporia State University for two years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving during the occupation of the Philippine islands.

He retired after 30 years as a general contractor in new home construction and grain elevators.

On Oct. 28, 1939, he married Mary Irene Ray in Nebraska.

Survivors include a son, Verne Walrafen of Ozawkie; a daughter, Juanita Kay Shipley of Blaine, Wash.; a brother, Donald Eugene Walrafen of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Meriden United Methodist Church. Burial was in Meriden Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with Deer Park Senior Group Home Activity Fund.
