No better bang for your buck

If you haven't yet called the city building to reserve your spot in the Western Wonderland Prairie Christmas Parade, you should.

There are prizes available for winners of the float competition. I heard from the parade committee that the Jolly Old Elf himself will be riding in his sleigh somewhere amongst the floats, bikes, and horses. The parade will take place Dec. 2, and we all want to see you in it.

The city building also is the place for purchasing Prairie Christmas activity buttons. For a minimal charge the button will get you into all kinds of events that day. Admission to events will either be free or at a reduced price with a button. On top of that, the buttons are cute. You should have one . . . or six.

There will be lots of food, a gun fight, parade, cowboy poets, some sort-of-famous people, musical interludes, merchant specials, a wreath auction (with wreaths made of lariats, no less), and lots of fun for everyone.

I sound just like a commercial, don't I? Well, there is a reason for that. I want you all to participate. Sounds like a good community event and the more people involved, the more fun it will be.

In fact, as soon as you finish reading this newspaper, go circle Dec. 2 on your calendar so you remember to invite all of your out-of-town relation to join you in Peabody for the day.

Decorate a golf cart or a hay wagon in a western motif and put Aunt Bessie in the center, singing trail songs to all your nieces and nephews. Take in the Jackrabbit Hollow book signing by Flint Hills cowboy and teller of rustic tales Jim Hoy. Visit with Miss Kansas, grand marshal of the parade. Take grandpa to the Peabody Main Street chuckwagon dinner at the senior center. See if he knows what a johnny cake is.

This will be the place to be and you ought not miss it! Hope to see you there.
