Night in the Barn features donkey
The annual Night in the Barn living nativity on a farm near Goessel will feature a unique donkey this year, according to Doug Krehbiel, youth pastor at Tabor Mennonite Church.
"Donkey — that's his name — has some health challenges," Krehbiel explained. "But one day we found him standing guard over a lost lamb and that made him a hero. So we decided to build our Christmas story around him."
Krehbiel and his wife Jude, who make up the musical duo known as Road Less Traveled, wrote original music for "Donkey's Story," which was scripted by Carol Duerksen.
Duerksen and her husband, Maynard Knepp, will host Night in the Barn from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 17 and 18.
The public is invited to this come-and-go experience that features carols around a bonfire, hot chocolate, a barn full of friendly animals, and a short program.
The event is sponsored by the youth of Tabor and Goessel Mennonite churches. Admission is by donation.
Directions to the farm are from Goessel, three miles north, four miles east, and three-fourths of a mile north. From Hillsboro, four miles south, three miles west, and three-fourths of a mile north.
