Newfield's parole to be determined
The Kansas Department of Corrections has issued notice that Timothy Newfield, currently incarcerated at Hutchinson Correctional Facility, will be eligible for parole in June 2002. The Kansas Parole Board will hold a hearing during the month of May.
Public comment sessions will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday at the Finney State Office Building, 230 William, Wichita, and from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Landon State Office Building, 900 SW Jackson, Topeka.
Public comment sessions are held to provide interested parties with the opportunity to appear before the board to present views regarding the possibility of Newfield's parole.
Anyone, who is unable to appear in person, but wishes to have his opinion known by parole board members, may address written comments to the board at: Kansas Parole Board, Landon State Office Building, 900 SW Jackson, Room 452-S, Topeka KS 66612-1220.
Written comments should be sent by May 1.
Newfield was convicted of the July 29, 1979, kidnap and murder of banker Grant Avery of Peabody. He was sentenced to life in prison. Under the sentencing guidelines of that time, he was eligible for parole after serving 15 years of the sentence.
