New director appreciates support
By KRISTEN HOOPER
Director, Peabody Main Street Association
Since 1989, the City of Peabody and its local government has shown support of Peabody Main Street Association. Seventeen years later, that support continues to be given.
The State of Kansas requires that I attend quarterly trainings, basic trainings, the National Main Street Conference, and various other training sessions throughout the year. All of them focus on four points of Main Street — organization, promotion, design, and economic restructuring with other issues facing communities. Sessions are held in different locations through the state. The national conference is hosted by select cities. This year it will be in New Orleans and in Seattle in 2007. All of these state-required sessions tend to weigh heavily on a budget.
At the Aug. 28 Peabody City Council meeting I requested the city and Peabody Main Street Association establish an agreement to split costs 50-50 of required training. I was asked to submit a detailed to the council estimated cost report by Sept. 11. At the Sept. 11 meeting the council approved an agreement with the Main Street association to split the cost.
This agreement will tremendously assist the Peabody Main Street Association. It also reinforces the support the city has for Main Street and is committing to help it succeed.
