Neighborhood beautification contest begins

Birds are singing, sun is shining, grass is growing, and so begins another season of yard maintenance, barbecues, and summer fun.

The Peabody Economic Development Council once again is hosting its neighborhood beautification contest. Every block in Peabody is eligible to win.

A block includes both sides of one street block. Whether your block is maintaining a look that already is well polished or improving the area in a significant way, your block is a great contestant to win a block party hosted by members of Peabody Economic Development Council, Peabody State Bank, City of Peabody, Peabody Main Street Association, and Peabody Market.

Five anonymous judges will observe properties May 19 through 22. Each judge will vote for three blocks. The block with the most votes will be awarded a barbecue block party June 2.

To be eligible to win the block party, grass must be mowed, neat and trim; bushes and trees trimmed; no appliances, junk, or debris in yards; curbs and gutters clean; no nuisance conditions; or must be the most improved in all of the above categories.

Each month throughout the summer a block party will be offered. Watch the Peabody Gazette-Bulletin for information on future block contest or call Joanna Brazil at 983-2174 or e-mail pmsa@peabodyks.com.
