Nedra Robinson
Nedra Maxine Robinson, 96, of Chanute, died May 14, 2004.
Born June 2, 1907, in Chanute, she was the daughter of Amza Clayton and Stacia Gusta (Ray) Ward.
She graduated from Chanute High School and continued her education at Kansas State Teacher's College in Emporia, graduating in 1930.
She began teaching at Florence Junior High School and taught math at Florence High School for 34 years. She retired in 1969, and was active in the Florence community until 1991 when she moved to Chanute.
On July 6, 1950, she married James Dougal Robinson. He died in 1971.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Chanute, Order of the Eastern Star in Newton, and the Kansas Retired Teachers Association. She was a charter member of the Harvey House Museum in Florence and played organ and piano for a number of churches since she was nine years old.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert Dale Ward and Amza Clayton Ward; and an infant sister, Carol Ruth Ward.
Survivors include a daughter, Maxine Wilson of Sulpher, Okla.; two sisters, Mary Alice Baird of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Dorothy Joan Fulton of Plano, Texas; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church, Chanute, with the Rev. David Jenkins officiating.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Monday at Florence cemetery.
Memorial funds have been established with Cherry Street Youth Organization or Horizon Hospice.
