My thanks and a suggestion
Peabody had an excellent party for the Main Street program Saturday night. There is a picture elsewhere in this newspaper to prove it. And I can attest to the fact that cherry cheesecake still is a valuable commodity in the world of fund-raising. (About a fourth of it is in my refrigerator as we speak and I had a conference with my banker to arrange for the loan.) In fact, all the desserts really were "To Die For." There were 10 and they brought in $1,300. That is a pretty nice price, don't you think?
We appreciate everyone who helped make the event a success. You are a good group and we enjoyed working with you.
Moving right along to other issues of importance, I should let you know that I have a growing stack of photographs at the newspaper office. If you have submitted a photo of your new grandchild, the latest wedding in your family, or Grandma and Grandpa's anniversary its possible I still have the picture. Stop in next time you are downtown and we'll look in the file.
I got a notice from the library board about some free computer classes they are offering. They don't call them "computer lessons for dummies," but I assume that is what they are. I am thinking of signing up for one of them. I know a couple of other people who ought to do the same thing.
I can remember when the prime tool for writing opinions and stories for the school paper was a No. 2 lead pencil. And now it's been years since I've used one. I never thought I would see the technological advances that have come our way. Growing up I could not have dreamed of all that computers can do, but now I can hardly imagine life without them. And I really should learn more. I'm guessing the Library Geeks — as they call themselves — who are in charge of this project will be helpful and patient.
If you are one of those people who know how to turn a computer on and off, but little more, here is your chance to learn the next steps. Good for the library board for moving in this direction. Make the call and sign up for a class. Send me an e-mail with a news item attached. Better yet, scan your next wedding announcement photo and send it to my computer. Then I won't have to worry about those pictures piling up in the return photo file.
I'll look forward to hearing from you.
