Music students participate in March events
Final performance features staff, faculty
The month of March is Music In Our Schools Month for music students across the country. Peabody students are participating in music events in conjunction with MIOSM.
Peabody Elementary School fifth and sixth grade bands kicked off the month March 2 with a short afternoon concert.
This week junior high instrumental and vocal students were at Berean Academy Tuesday for Heart of America League Music Festival. In addition to performances by band and chorus, many students presented solo and ensemble arrangements before the judges.
Students will perform their solo and ensemble selections at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school band room. The concert is open to the public.
The high school and junior high bands will present a MIOSM concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Building gymnasium. Again, the concert is open to the public.
A final local performance will be at 7 p.m. March 17 at Peabody United Methodist Church when members of Peabody-Burns faculty and staff will perform.
The last event of the month for high school band students will be a special event.
The PBHS concert band has been invited to perform a concert with Friends University Wind Ensemble. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. March 31 at Alexander Auditorium on Friends University Campus. The high school band will perform first followed by the Friends group. According to band director Steve Glover there will be a small charge to attend the concert, but he has not been informed of the amount. "We are thrilled to be invited to participate in this event," said Glover.
"Music is an important part of a balanced education and provides much enjoyment for both the performers and the audience.
"We hope parents and district patrons will make an attempt to attend some or all of these special music events and support our students during Music In Our Schools Month."
