Doyle Valley Farmers Market welcomes Brent and Shannon Castillo from the Elbing area. They will present special music at 10 a.m. Saturday at Santa Fe Park.

Brent is best known as the faith and music columnist for the Saturday edition of the Wichita Eagle. He also is a staff artist. Shannon, mother of six, who grew up in Riverside in Wichita remarked the shade trees in the park made her feel right at home.

The Castillo duo, with Brent on guitar and vocals by Shannon, will present an informal concert. Shannon is in great demand for her wedding songs as well as an occasional funeral.

The event is free to the public, along with coffee. A special lamb/hamburger fry also is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon.

Visitors at the market may purchase treats to go with the coffee from vendors who also specialize in baked goods. Many vegetables will be available for purchase.

The Doyle Valley Farmers Market was started in 1999 with a grant from Kansas Rural Center to provide a venue for locally grown foods. The money received from membership is used for promoting the market and good community ties. Recently a picnic table made by the local vocational agriculture students was purchased by the group for use in the park. Sales tax collected contributes to Marion County taxes.

Members will host a community dinner Aug. 7 with vendors providing local foods.
