Mothers needed for foreign exchange students

Rachelle Pohlman of Peabody invites local mothers to become a "mom" to a "son" or "daughter" from a faraway country.

These kids are foreign students looking to spend a school year in the United States sponsored by PAX-Program of Academic Exchange, a non-profit educational foundation. Pohlman serves as local representative for the non-profit educational organization.

Host mom Mary Griffis is one of hundreds of PAX host mothers this year. Speaking of her Korean "daughter," Ji A Choi, Griffis says, "I never thought I would love her so much. Ji A has become my daughter in every way."

PAX foreign exchange students are between the ages of 15 and 18, will spend the next school year living with host families and attending high school. They speak English, have full medical insurance, and their own spending money. They arrive in August from more than 20 different countries, including Germany, Brazil, Spain, India, Thailand, Sweden, Venezuela, Kosovo, and South Korean.

For more information, call Pohlman at (620) 983-9206 or the PAX national office at (800) 555-6211.
