Mosquito briquettes are available at city office
Peabody City Treasurer Stephanie Ax has announced a new shipment of larvicide briquettes for mosquito control has arrived at the city office.
The briquettes are free to Peabody residents and will be given out on a first come, first served basis.
"Even with the spraying city crews have been doing, people have been asking for them," said Ax. "We have had so much rain and people have standing water in culverts, ditches, and alleys. They are concerned about the mosquito problem.
"We had a lot of requests for the briquettes so decided to get them for those who want them."
Briquettes are formulated to release effective levels of larvicide for 30 days or more depending on environmental conditions. The floating action of the briquettes in high water will ensure that active material is released at the surface as well as gradually settling to the bottom of standing water and breeding areas.
