MHM receives grant from IBM Corporation

Mennonite Heritage Museum of Goessel, is the recipient of a $1,000 grant from IBM Corporation. This grant will be used to purchase display panels for the One-Room School Display researched by Mayleen Vinson.

The IBM grant was awarded due to the efforts of Lee Vinson, an employee of IBM Corporation, who has been volunteering at the museum.

"We greatly appreciate the many hours the Vinsons have donated to the museum. This IBM Corporation grant will benefit museum visitors of all ages. The one-room school exhibit features 85 years of history for 16 Goessel area one-room schools through more than 600 photos, facts, and documents.

"The exhibit's goal is to emphasize the legacy of these schools and educate every generation of similarities and differences in past and present education. We're hoping to have the permanent display completed by March of 2006," said Darlene Schroeder, Museum Director.

Mennonite Heritage Museum was established in Goessel in 1974, to tell the story of the Mennonite Immigrants to Kansas in 1874. To contact the museum call 620-367-8200 or email mhmuseum@mtelco.net.
