Meteorologist Larson speaks to PBES students
Peabody-Burns Elementary School students, grade one through four were visited Feb. 8 by KWCH Channel 12 meteorologist, Mark Larson.
He spoke with first and second graders about the water cycle and explained the meaning of the word "meteorologist" which comes from Latin words meaning "cloud studier."
The children enjoyed a weather book and discussed the various forms of moisture our weather produces.
Larson showed the children how a cloud is formed using pressure in a bottle mixed with moisture and dust particles from burnt matches.
The third and fourth graders learned about different symbols used on weather maps. They also were cautioned to use a 30-30 rule while playing outside if a storm is brewing. It's a counting method that enables children to quickly determine whether they need to go inside or can stay outside a little longer.
In appreciation of Larson's time with the children, he was presented a baseball cap and insulated mug with the school's name.
