Message from Coach Franchione read at reunion ceremony

The following e-mail communication from former football coach Dennis Franchione was received by PBHS principal Tim Robertson Sept. 7. It was read Sept. 21 at the presentation of the 1977 football team during halftime of the homecoming game against Sedgwick.

First of all, congratulations to all those at Peabody High School for recognizing the 1977 football team!

My memory is first and foremost about the exceptional young men on this team, many of whom I still remain in contact with. There were so many outstanding athletes, but most of all there was character, commitment, selflessness, and willingness to work hard every day. This was a fun group to coach and teach.

Every game was special and memorable for me, the players, our families, and the community. I consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to coach every player on this team. It was wonderful to see how a team could unify an entire community with such a tremendous sense of pride.

To the players, I know that there are many success stories because of the type of people you were and have grown to be. I have coached for 35 years at several places, but the PHS Warriors will always be a special group of young men, a special team, and I will always cherish those memories.

Have fun at your reunion and God bless you all.

Coach Fran
