McVey honored by Kansas State Department of Education

Kansas Horizon Awards are given annually to 30 first-year teachers. The award is sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education. Teachers who have completed their first year of teaching are eligible, but only those who have distinguished themselves with an outstanding performance are nominated.

Jennifer McVey, a 2000 graduate of Peabody-Burns High School and a 2004 graduate of Kansas State University recently was selected as one of the 30 Horizon Award winners. McVey teaches at Lincoln Elementary School for the Geary County School District.

McVey was nominated by Lincoln Elementary School principal Samrie Devin.

"I . . . nominated her . . . for her energy and the enthusiasm she brings to the classroom, making each student feel worthy," said Devin.

McVey was notified of her award by Bob Corkins, commissioner of education. She and the other winners will be recognized at a special luncheon in February.

She is the daughter of Bob and Sandy McVey of rural Peabody.
