McCartney wins spelling bee
Twenty-two students participated Friday in the Peabody-Burns Elementary School Spelling Bee. The students were Nikita Brown, Laci McCartney, Matthew Hiebert, Andrew Sheffler, Dylan Jones, Jordan Riggs, Emily Harris, Britny Shabaiash, Abe Eldridge, Joseph Lopez, Thane Hurst, Isaac Burnett, Paige Barnes, Kayleb Koslowsky, Aaron Topham, Rushanna Smith, Kaitlyn Preheim, Luke Douglas, Chris Loucks, Garrett Weems, Julie Wedel, and Shelby Elliott. They received the top scores on a written test given to all fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students.
Winning the PES bee was fourth grader, Laci McCartney. Second place winner was sixth grader, Paige Barnes, and third place winner was Julie Wedel, a sixth grader. Contestants will participate in the Marion County Bee, to be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 20 at Centre High School gymnasium.
