Mary Long
Mary J. Long, 65, Newton, died Jan. 7, 2002, at a Tulsa, Okla., hospital.
Born May 18, 1938, near Burns, she was the daughter of the late Guy R. and Mary Madeline (Abplanalp) Parsons.
She was raised in the Burns community and on Jan. 6, 1974, was married to Hugh P. Long at Hesston.
Most of their married lives was spent at Colorado Spring, Colo., where she worked as an office secretary for a real estate firm.
Following retirement in 1999, they moved to Newton.
Survivors include her husband, Hugh, of Newton; stepdaughter Cindy Johnson of Pinetop, Ariz.; brother, Guy Parsons Jr. of Wichita; sisters, Marjorie Gfeller of Burns, Ruth Wright of Peabody, and Nettie Graham of Hesston; three nephews; and 10 nieces. One son, Todd David Carlisle, died in 1979.
Services were held Friday morning at Burns United Methodist Church with pastors Steve Hysom and Dale Houghton officiating.
Burial was in the Whitewater Center Cemetery.
Memorial funds may be sent to the Kansas State University Center for Basic Cancer Research.
