Marion County Fair Week: Magic begins today at county fairgrounds
Parade, rodeos, demo derby highlight annual event
"Explore the Magic of the Fair" is this year's theme of the Marion County Fair which begins today (Wednesday) and ends Saturday at the fairgrounds in Hillsboro.
A parade at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in downtown Hillsboro will kick-off the festivities. Fort Riley Commanding General's Mounted Color Guard will ride through the parade and perform from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the fairgrounds.
The fifth annual Women's Ranch Rodeo will begin at 7:30 p.m. that evening. As many as 10 four-women teams will compete in calf branding, team sorting, trailer loading, and calf doctoring events. Admission is $2 for adults. Children 12 and under are free.
On Thursday, the first of two sessions of the Kraft Rodeo begins at 8 p.m. in the arena. The itinerary also will include Mutton Bustin', mini-bull riding, and a calf scramble for children 10 and under.
The Kraft Rodeo will resume at 8 p.m. for the following night.
Admission is $6 for adults per night or $10 for both nights. Admission for children 6-12 is $5, and no charge for children 5 and under.
Family Day will be Saturday and will include free airplane rides, performances by Vicky's School of Dance, a four-wheeler Olympics, petting zoo, style review, and pedal tractor pull.
A demolition derby will be at 7 p.m. Saturday in the arena.
Fun Services Midwest Entertainment will provide interactive, inflatable activities each night. A paintless paintball shooting gallery, mechanical bull, and the National Guard rock climbing wall are among the attractions.
A variety of concessions and food vendors also will be available with various 4-H, craft, and commercial exhibits.
