Many Labor Day events require pre-registration

There will be several events on Labor Day weekend in Florence that require pre-registration.

On Aug. 30, beginning at 8 a.m., Florence will be the site of a community wide garage sale. Several families throughout the community will host these sales. Last year there were almost 30 sales pre-registered to be included on a map of these events.

There is a $5 registration fee, and this year you must pre-register by Aug. 25. The maps will be available all day Saturday at local merchants, and also at the Labor Day Information Booth in Downtown Florence. To pre-register contact Cindy Holt at 620-878-4557 or 878-4535.

On Monday, Sept. 1, the Almost Annual Labor Day Car Show will be held downtown at Fifth and Main. Registration is from 8 to 10 a.m.

Any cars interested in being in the car show and also in the parade must be registered in time to make the line-up time for the parade. After the parade, the cars will go directly to the car show locations. For any information regarding the car show you may contact Janette Parmley at 620-878-4646.

Also on Monday an Arts & Crafts Show featuring area vendors will be located on Fourth Street, east of Main Street. Anyone interested in displaying can pre-register by calling Sue Klassen at 620-878-4447, or by e-mailing seklassen@yahoo.com.

There is a $15 fee for booth space with electricity and the fee is $10 without electricity. Registrations will also be accepted on-site on Monday beginning at 7 a.m.

The Florence Ambulance Department will host several exhibits on Monday in its building at 515 Main St., adjacent to the new City Hall. The Chase County Art Guild is sponsoring a Fine Art Show inside the meeting room at the Ambulance Building. Any local artists who are interested in showing their work should contact Keith Holtsclaw at 620-878-4574.

Space is somewhat limited, so Keith should be contacted as soon as possible. In the ambulance building "Faces on the Wall," a moving display honoring Vietnam veterans from Kansas, will be on display. Trevor Smith of Newton created the wall and a website, facesonthewall.com.

Also in the building will be a miniature train exhibit. Last year the train exhibit was highly popular, especially with young children and model train enthusiasts of all ages.
