Man to be charged in death of local woman

In a statement issued Friday by the Sedgwick County district attorney's office, 22-year-old Achaz Alford of Wichita will be charged in the 1999 death of Tina Frederick, formerly of Peabody.

Frederick, a 1996 graduate of Peabody-Burns High School was 22 when she died. She was living in a Wichita apartment and working as a nurse's aide at Creative Care Corporation.

Wichita Police Lt. Ken Landwehr said Alford was not initially a suspect in Frederick's death. He did not elaborate on what led to the focus on Alford. But the statement from the county attorney's office said it had received a tip in February.

Alford will be charged in Sedgwick County court with premeditated first degree murder, rape, aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated burglary, and aggravated robbery.

He currently is serving time for first degree murder in another 1999 slaying that occurred a week after Frederick was found dead in her apartment by the apartment manager.
