Main Street on MySpace.com

By KRISTEN HOOPER

Director, Peabody Main Street Association

MySpace is a popular social networking website offering an interactive, user-submitted network of friends, personal profiles, blogs, groups, photos, and music. It is a free site that allows people to connect and network. Peabody Main Street Association has designed and created a Peabody Main Street Association MySpace page, with the help of two local volunteers ,Garrett LaFoy and Travis Wilson, and PJ Stephenson, director of Ottawa Main Street.

This page will help PMSA connect with the youth, young adults, and alumni from Peabody while keeping them informed about Main Street and the community. Information about events will be posted to the page along with pictures of the downtown businesses and Main Street events.

There is a link to the City of Peabody website and a link to the Main Street Marketplace online store where you can purchase Peabody memorabilia, hats, aprons, limited edition ornaments, mugs, keychains, etc.

The wonderful thing about MySpace is you can be connected to anyone including businesses and vendors. As other Main Street communities throughout the country tap into this great resource, the Main Street networking will increase and there will be an opportunity for a great exchange of information and ideas.

Peabody Main Street Association is one of the first four Kansas Main Street communities, along with Ottawa, Manhattan, and Emporia, that have created pages in hopes it will increase the volunteer base, the exchange of ideas, and increase awareness of the organization.
