Main Street Association to offer workshops
Peabody Main Street Association will offer two workshops scheduled for August.
A tax credit workshop is scheduled for Tuesday and a general building upkeep session will be held Aug. 21. Both sessions begin at 6:30 p.m. at Peabody Township Library.
Peabody is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places with 42 contributing buildings. With this listing, there are incentives with potential opportunity for benefits directly relating to the rehabilitation of the historic buildings.
Katrina Ringler, Kansas Historical Society tax credit program coordinator, will be in Peabody Tuesday for site visits of buildings listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and for those who are in the designated area.
Ringler will provide individual guidance on how to customize projects to meet requirements for the Standards of Interior and codes to qualify for the tax credit program.
Following her site visits, she will present a workshop to discuss the state and federal preservation laws and incentives. All businesses and building owners in the designated district are invited to attend.
Bruce McMillan, the Kansas Main Street architect, will be in Peabody Aug. 21 to give a presentation about basic building maintenance and simple projects to revitalize facades.
The Peabody Main Street Association's application for design assistance through the Kansas Main Street Program was accepted, allowing the opportunity for McMillan to work with the designated Main Street district.
Although both workshops are free, reservations are necessary to ensure adequate handouts are available. Call Kristen Hooper, 620-983-2174, by Monday to make reservations.
