Ludwig Truck Line featured by chamber

Ludwig Truck Line was featured Thursday in the monthly "Get to Know Your Member" portion of the Florence Chamber of Commerce meeting. Ron Ludwig's father started the company with a wagon and horse in 1922 at Clements. Kathleen and Ronald later purchased the business and this year, at 81 years, it is the oldest truckline in business in the state of Kansas.

The meeting, held at the Florence senior center, was attended by Cindy Holt, Bill Dyar, Ed and Neva Robinson, Kathleen and Ronald Ludwig, Rodney and Twilah Williams, Mary Jane Grimmett, Sue Klassen, John and Joanna Lewman, and Dan Ludwig.

Main topics discussed included improvements at the city swimming pool and repainting city entrance signs.

Sue Klassen reported the recent steak feed sponsored by the chamber over the Memorial Day weekend was a success. It was decided to make it an annual event, though not on Memorial Weekend.

The chamber will purchase a water fountain for the city to install at the swimming pool and will be responsible for painting the trim at the pool. Plans are to post a sign to commemorate the pool's history with a listing of community workers involved in its construction. Business signs posted to welcome travelers to Florence will be repainted and the rock sign east of Florence will be spray painted.

The next chamber meeting will be July 3.
