Look for Peabody at Sampler Festival
Several Peabody organizations are busy preparing for the Kansas Sampler Festival May 1-2 in Newton.
Peabody Main Street, Peabody Historical Society, Peabody Fourth Fest Society, Peabody State Bank, USD #398, and local businesses are teaming up to represent Peabody at the festival. Their theme is "Food, Fibers, and Fireworks
"We hope to appeal to all five senses to encourage visits to the Peabody booth," said Janet Hamous, president of the Peabody Historical Society.
Hamous and six others have teamed up to see that Peabody has a presence at the festival. The group is developing a "Guess that fiber!" game during which Sampler attendees can feel fibers from alpacas (right off the Methvin Alpaca Farm north of Peabody), wool (from the Jones Sheep Farm Bed and Breakfast south of Peabody), silk as a tribute to the Silk Station in Peabody's history, and other interesting fibers found in Peabody.
Booth visitors can enjoy a taste of Peabody by sampling the town's own fabulous summer sausage and Grandma's Homemade Mustard donated by the Peabody Sausage House.
Party poppers promoting our impressive Fourth Fest fireworks, carnival, food, live music, parade, and flea market also will be available to those who visit the Peabody booth.
Visitors will be able to sign up for a night in Peabody including a stay at the Jones Sheep Farm Bed and Breakfast and a package of Peabody Bucks to accompany the visit.
"Five to 10,000 people will be in Newton attending the Sampler," said Joanna Brazil of Peabody, who will help with the Sampler booth. "We hope they will visit Newton's fine neighbor to the east, Peabody, while they are in the area.
"It already will be a busy weekend in Peabody with the city-wide garage sale and the Jones' Greenhouse and Sheep Farm open house," Brazil said.
Everyone is invited to visit the Peabody booth at the Sampler Festival. Anyone with ideas or interested in working the booth is invited to contact Brazil at Peabody City Building at (620) 983-2174 or by e-mail at pmsa@peabodyks.com.
