Lloyd Shepler

Lloyd B. Shepler, 81, Peabody, died July 21, 2002, at Marion Manor.

He was born Oct. 13, 1920, at Wichita, the son of the late Lonnie R. and Anna Katherine (Wood) Shepler.

On June 30, 1947, he was married to Lucille Mandanna Spanger at Wichita. She survives at the home in Peabody.

A longtime member of the American Legion post at Peabody, he also was a life member of the VFW at Peabody.

He attended Peabody schools.

He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and the National Guard before joining the U.S. Army in 1940. He served 15 months in the Euro-pean Theatre of Operations.

Following the war he worked at Beech Aircraft in Wichita, then at Flowers Well Service, Peabody, and retired in 1985 after working as a driver for Dilley Trucking Co. and Ed Racette Trucking, Wichita. He enjoyed fishing and football.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille; aunt, Ruth Burkholder, also of Peabody; several cousins, nieces, and nephews; sisters-in-law Adeline Spangler of Peabody and Ethel Spangler of Wichita.

Services were held today, Wednesday, at Peabody United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Randall officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery near Elbing. The Peabody Avenue of Flags has been designated for memorial funds in his honor.
