Listening or not?

People in Marion who voted against establishing a regional landfill in Marion County have no right to complain about the high cost of purchasing the transfer station, paying high trash collection fees, the cost of closing the former landfill, or lack of local revenue resulting in higher taxes.

Those folks should keep quiet. They have no right to complain. The rest of us can raise hell, but must realize the die was cast when the votes were counted.

Approving the regional landfill would have given Marion County free trash service, provided revenue, paid for closing the former landfill, and not required the cost of a transfer station or county-owned landfill.

The next time you hear a complaint about the high taxes and outrageous cost of the trash program, ask the complainer "did you vote against the landfill?"

Put those little SLAM signs back on your lawns, so folks will know who to blame for the huge waste of public funds now in progress. It's time to be recognized.
