LETTERS: Support local senior center

To the Editor:

We feel the Peabody Senior Center is a vital and valuable part of our community, offering meals at home for some of our citizens as well as meals and friendship at the center.

Activities include a birthday dinner each month, residents of Legacy Park are invited to a covered dish dinner once a month, programs, quilting, and card playing.

The food for the center meals is provided by North-Central Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging, Manhattan. The suggested price per meal for those over 60 years of age is $2.75, with all money received returned to the agency.

Therefore, Peabody Senior Center depends on donations for the use of the building, memorials given, donations, and peppernuts baked and sold at the center each fall to keep the organization going.

There will be a benefit soup and pie supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Peabody Christian Church basement. Food will be donated by various churches of Peabody. All funds given will be used for utilities, repairs, and upkeep of the Peabody Senior Center building.
