Dear Peabody Friends:

Just to thank you for the complimentary copy of the Peabody Gazette-Bulletin! We read it "civer to civer"-ha! Only know Brock Baker, Joan Berns anymore, but always loved Peabody!!

Dear Susan:

Thank you for sending me the Peabody Gazette. I took it until last year and I have missed it. Of course, I knew Lubert DeFreese. On our first trip to Washington, D.C., he arranged for us to be on a VIP tour of the White House. His mother lived above one of the downtown stores and Mother and I visited her when I came home.

I visited the new Peabody website and enjoyed that. You all are doing a good job promoting Peabody. I will join the Main Street Association soon.

You were very kind to send me Feb. 12, 2003, copy of the Gazette-Bulletin.

The lead news item, "Two PHS Grads" was excellent. 1935 was my graduation year. H.H. Brown was superintendent, Frank Leatherman was principal, and Ross Anderson, sponsor for the Hi-Y of which I was an officer. At the state Hi-Y Convention I was elected president of the state convention. The Gazette said some nice things about that affair. You can guess what a great experience it was for me. It was the three above educators who talked me into going.

I enjoyed PHS very much.

The Gazette-Bulletin is well edited and I did enjoy getting it. Perhaps next quarter I will receive another one.

In appreciation,

My wife, Sharon Bartel, and I graduated from PHS in 1961. We've lived in numerous cities across the U.S. and it's been our good fortune to have done considerable travel (domestic and international).

It's still "good" to be reminded of how very pleasant life in Peabody was for us. It's also nice to know that much of that feel is still available for those who chose to live there. Thanks for the recent paper.

In going over my mail after returning from a recent teaching stint in Mexico, I came across the Feb. 12 issue of the Peabody Gazette-Bulletin that you sent along. I was very impressed by the excellent quality of the paper and want to commend you and the rest of your staff for your excellent work.

Some of you citizens who never left town, or who have come back to live there, are providing an excellent service in keeping up the community spirit and your efforts are very much appreciated by those of us who left, but who still feel an attachment to the home community.

It is always a pleasure for me, sometimes accompanied by family members, to come back for the Memorial Day weekend events and to see people from years ago (I graduated in 1956.)

Again, thanks for sending along the issue and I wish you well in your efforts to maintain the community spirit for which a good weekly newspaper is an important part.
