LETTERS: Perfect parade

To the Editor:

It was perfect weather Dec. 1 for a parade. And what a parade!! It just gives me goose bumps every time I see or hear our band march down Walnut.

I was thinking about the difference between our parades and, let's say, Wichita's parades for example. Wichita's parades may be bigger, but I don't think anybody at our parade would say they were better! There is a connection we have here in our hometown that can't be felt in the large cities.

I think the biggest difference is the fact that we know almost all the people around us. I mean, there is something special about the fact that the person next to you is sharing in your joy. The joy you have while you watch your family members or friends come down the street on a float, or driving a police car, fire truck, ambulance, or any other vehicle, or sometimes even in a sleigh! In the big city, I don't have a clue if the person next to me came to watch a loved one of if they just came for the free candy!

Hats off to Susie Schmidt, Debra Buser, and Shawna Winter for keeping a Peabody tradition alive with a job well done!!
