LETTERS: Donations needed for county organization

To the Editor:

Recently, Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters, Inc., announced an auction in Marion County to sell land bequeathed to Big Brothers Big Sisters by James A. Blue. Before his death, he requested this land be donated to the non-profit organization in order to help kids in Kansas.

Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters, Inc., will use the proceeds from the sale to help provide thousands of children with caring mentors. Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters is thankful to the Blue family for their generous donation.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Marion County will not receive direct proceeds from the sale but will benefit indirectly as we are a community agency of Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters. The proceeds from the sale will be put to use all across the state to help children in need.

We are thankful to Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters for all the work they do to help assist our agency here in Marion County. They provide training, marketing and communications support and many other benefits to us locally.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Marion County served 180 children in our community in 2007 and we expect that number to increase in 2008. This is only possible through support we receive here in Marion County. We sincerely have appreciated the past support of Marion County and need your continued support to making a difference in the lives of Marion County kids. If you are interested in becoming a friend to one of the 18 children waiting for a mentor, please call 62-382-3800 today.
