Letters
Dear Susan:
The Peabody Gazette-Bulletin has come, and I thank you.
I read the Opinion section and while this won't be newsworthy, I think you may be interested in my historic relation with the July 4th celebration.
Eighty-three years ago when Peabody kicked off their first July 4th "fireworks" I was six years of age and my brother, Frank, was eight. We lived with our widowed mother, Anna Horst, and there were six children.
There was no possible way we could have gotten to the Peabody Park, but we could climb the stairs to the second floor at home and watch out the window.
The Roman candles and sky rockets were visible three miles away and while no one knew our enthusiasm nor could hear our shouts of "Wow!" we could see and hear the celebration quite well.
This year I will not hear the Peabody fireworks from 840 miles away, but I'll always remember the long ago Peabody fireworks in the Peabody park.
Respectfully in appreciation,
Laurence Horst

Dear Susan:
Thank you for sending me the quarterly Peabody Gazette-Bulletin.
I graduated from Peabody High School in 1935 and have been gone from Peabody for many years, but I guess I will always have fond memories of my life there.
Peabody is being preserved in many ways and I enjoy knowing that the hometown is doing well.
Thanks again.
