Letter: Writer opposed to liquor-by-the-drink
To the Editor:
In response to the article on the front page of the Feb. 25 Peabody paper, I would like to voice my opinion on the issue proposed to our county commissioners, namely liquor-by-the-drink.
Would all these fine people propose to inject a cancer germ into every person who came by? They both are like killers, look at all the DUI arrests listed in the Newton Kansas or even the local paper. What about all the accidents drunk drivers cause?
May I share an article I recently read by Dr. Charles Mayo?
In addressing a large convention of boys, he said, "You can get along with a wooden leg, but you can't get along with a wooden head. The physical value of man is not much, man as analyzed in our laboratories is worth about 98 cents, that is not very much. It is the brain that counts, but in order that your brain may be kept clear, you must keep your body fit and well. That cannot be done if one drinks liquor, then you become a danger and a menace to society."
Thus in the light of all this I must respond with a big NO to this proposal.
