Where should I shop for groceries?
To the Editor:
In the Peabody City Council minutes (newsletter insert in the August 2006, water bill), it is noted a motion carried to purchase candy and supplies locally for the Peabody swimming pool concessions.
I presume that would mean the grocery store would become a vendor for the pool. The grocery store owners must have suggested this would be a good idea for the city-owned and managed pool to shop in this city.
What is interesting about this story is that when I open my local newspaper (Peabody Gazette-Bulletin), out falls a grocery store insert from a Marion store. Where is my local grocery store ad? To find one I have to get a Hillsboro-owned newspaper.
I am in a quandary. Do I support the Marion business that supports my local newspaper or do I support a local business that supports an out-of-town newspaper?
Or does it matter? Maybe I should just go to Dillon's and shop with the rest of the Peabodyites and not worry about it.
