Letter to the editor

To the Editor:

It is with pleasure I encourage voters to support Jana Shaver, Republican candidate for Kansas State Board of Education from the 9th District.

Jana has an educational specialist degree in reading instruction and understands the role of the KSBE in developing standards to guide local school districts in maintaining quality teaching and learning in all areas of the curriculum. She believes the implementation of those standards is best left in control of local school districts.

Shaver has worked with at-risk students at Lincoln Elementary in Independence, planned parenting events, and scheduled conferences and educational programs.

As district curriculum coordinator at Independence, she chaired the community Parenting Fair for more than five years, worked with Four County Mental Health, Montgomery County Extension Agency, and USD #446 to provide information and support to parents, and gave them opportunities to participate outside of their daily work schedules.

A vote for Jana Shaver in the Aug. 1 primary is a vote for educational experience, parental support, and local control.
