To the Editor:

I am trying to research something and maybe someone in your community can help me with this.

Recently I inherited what was left of 20 pairs of hand-embroidered pillowcases from my mother. She tells me that all 20 pairs came from "the Peabody relatives" (as wedding gifts when she married my father).

My grandmother from Peabody was from a German Mennonite background (Frieda Kottwitz Evertt). My mother didn't like these pillowcases, but I am very intrigued by the history of these unique wedding gifts. (My grandmother has died on so I am not able to ask her.)

Can any of the older residents in town shed light on this gift? Was it a custom in your community (about 1960)?

I love any handwork like this and would truly like to know some of the history behind these women's hard work.

Anyone who has anything that would help solve this mystery can contact me. Any help will be appreciated.
