Letter to Editor

To the Editor:

This letter is being written as I sit and watch the A-team Peabody-Burns High School boys' basketball game for third place at the Burrton Invitational tournament.

As I sit in the stand watching another basketball game, I can't help but see some things that if I was a player or a cheerleader, I would not be pleased with. Peabody-Burns is blessed to have a strong following to all events. I realize that to many adults the event is for socialization as well as to support a child, relative, friends or just the event itself. But how frustrating it must be to both the cheerleaders and athletes to see the cheerleaders trying to get enthusiasm going and only a handful of parents are standing and cheering with them.

And unfortunately, it wasn't just the adults who weren't standing, it was much of our student body also. Where has the school pride gone? We need to get it back!

All the students need the support of the community, 'win or lose.' They need to know we are there for all of them. And when "On Peabody" (to the tune of "On Wisconsin") is played, we all should be on our feet.

All the students are winners in our eyes, but they need to hear and see it from all of us. A "well done," "congratulations," or "thank you" can go a long way to making a positive, lasting impression on our kids, our schools, and our community.

P.S. When was the last time that any of us took the time to tell any of the employees of USD #398 "thank you?" We are all sometimes so quick to criticize others, that we forget that everyone is trying to do the best job for our kids, our school, and our communities.
