Letter added to historical society collection

A letter written by Peabody silk station superintendent I. Horner and a sample of silk recently were added to the Peabody Historical Society's collection of silk station memorabilia.

The letter, dated Aug. 1, 1887, is Horner's response to Mrs. E. James of Calo, who had sent him four sacks of silk cocoons.

In return for her 32.5 pounds of silk cocoons, James was given a check for $27.45.

The silk station operated north of Peabody from 1887 to 1897. At the time, Kansas silk was considered "inferior to none."

Silk station memorabilia is displayed in the Peabody Historical Museum.
