Lena Thiessen

Lena Thiessen, 84, Elbing, died Feb. 6, 2002, at Whitewater.

The daughter of A.T. and Anna (Ediger) Neufeld, she was born Oct. 2, 1917, at Inman.

She graduated from Inman High School and attended one year at Tabor College, Hillsboro.

She married Willard Edwin Thiessen on March 9, 1947, at Inman.

A homemaker, she also was employed at Herald Publishing Co., Newton, and Wheat State Manor and Roxy's Flower Shop at Whitewater. She was a member of Emmaus Mennonite Church, Whitewater.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Willard of Elbing; son, Lauren Thiessen of Wichita; two daughters, Jolyn Stark of Raymore, Mo., and Lavada Klinger of Phillipsburg; two brothers, Dan Neufeld of Inman and Cornie Neufeld of Overland Park; four sisters, Marie Gilley of Hutchinson, Margaret Wiebe of Whitewater, and Sally Wiens and Katherine Ensz, both of Inman; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at Emmaus Mennonite Church, Whitewater, with Pastors Rodney Crowell and Bill Wiebe officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Memorials have been established with Berean Academy and Teens For Christ.
