Legacy Park works on emergency plan
To the Editor:
Even though the historic ice storm of 2005 is behind us, the memories remain vivid. As everyone learned, even the best prepared can't always be prepared for every situation. In the worst of times we saw the best of people. So many were willing to help others. That is what defines Peabody as a community.
At Legacy Park we have taken steps forward to better handle a power outage. We have purchased a generator for the building. If the need arises, we will be able to provide electricity to the major portion of the building. We plan to complete wiring in the future to operate the entire building.
We take our responsibility for those who live at Legacy Park seriously. Even though some enjoyed the adventure they had the first week of January, we made a decision that they will not experience it again because of lack of electricity.
An old saying is "adversity builds character." I believe our residents already have experienced their share of adversity and I want to spare them unnecessary discomfort. Our staff did benefit from some character building, but most will tell you that small doses are most effective.
We all hope for more mild weather for the remainder of winter. Even though we can't control or predict that aspect, at least Legacy Park is better prepared to handle power outages. I hope you are too.
