Legacy Park will celebrate nursing home week

Activities at Legacy Park will be stepped up a notch next week when residents and staff celebrate National Nursing Home Week. Visitors may notice some peculiar behavior, odd clothing, and peculiar unusually tasty treats.

Each day a different department will be honored, a special event will be held for residents and staff, and staff members will dressed up.

Monday the dietary staff will be honored and the day's event — the annual balloon launch from the north parking lot — will be at 1 p.m. Sarsaparilla floats will be served after the launch. Dress for the day is cowboy attire.

The nursing staff and related departments will be the honorees on Tuesday when everyone is dressed for Hawaiian Day, pineapple upside-down cake is served, and the featured activity is the resident's choice "staff triathlon" at 2 p.m.

On Wednesday turtles will be revving up their motors for turtle races at 2 p.m. Yummy turtle cupcakes will be the featured treat. The folks in the funny clothes will be staff members still in their pajamas. Wednesday celebrates the staff in housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance departments.

Thursday everyone will go back several decades to the rocking 1950s. Dress and music for the day will be poodle skirts, bobby socks, letter sweaters, and rock 'n' roll. Social services, administration, and office personnel will be honored. Staff and residents will be bowling at 2 p.m. with popcorn and snow cones to follow.

Friday will honor all staff members. Attire will be picnic/casual clothes and featured activities will include a barbecue at noon and the grand finale water balloon and gun fight at 2 p.m.
