Leave a legacy
By TOM ALSTROM
The Peabody Community Fund (PCF) has chosen "Leave a Legacy" as the slogan for making people aware of the foundation and what possibilities it has for doing just that — leaving a legacy.
The Peabody Community Fund was established to give people an opportunity to do their charitable giving right here in their home community.
The PCF long-range goals are to get people to plan their estate with charitable contributions as part of that plan. The PCF can assist as a tool to use to funnel your charitable giving.
For instance, if you have always given $100 a year to a particular organization and would like that to continue even after you are not able to contribute, the PCF can help with this transaction.
If you make a lump sum contribution of $2,000 you can designate the proceeds of that money to go to that organization and the foundation will make sure they get that money as long as they exist.
The other avenue where PCF can be used is your periodic charitable contribution or year-end contributions for tax purposes. The PCF has set up funds that will go to help local programs continue to grow and maintain our community.
The newest of these funds is the USD #398 educational foundation. This foundation has been established to award grants to teachers for enrichment projects and innovative programs for improving the education of the students.
The PCF also has funds for the historical society, Main Street, and the unrestricted fund. These funds are to help with the continuing effects of these organizations to maintain our community so it can grow and prosper well into the future. The unrestricted fund is to be utilized as a grant fund to other organizations within the community to help with projects that can make a difference in our community.
The PCF is hosting an informational dinner Oct. 11 in the grade school gymnasium to encourage more people to get involved in the PCF and to share how we can make a difference with our charitable giving no matter how large or small the amount.
So if you are interested in "leaving a legacy" in your school or community please take the time to contact one of the foundation board members for more information on how you can continue to be part of this community.
