League losses plague Peabody-Burns Lady Warriors

Peabody-Burns High School girls' basketball team suffered two league losses this past week.

They lost a close contest, 43-30, Tuesday at Moundridge before taking a 61-38 homecoming loss Friday against Little River.

The Lady Warriors were set to travel Tuesday to Remington followed by a Friday trip to Hartford.

PBHS played good defense against the Moundridge squad holding the Lady Wildcats scoreless in the first. Jessi Hilliard put up the only first quarter score with four.

Lady Warriors continued to play tough defense against the Lady Wildcats, but shooting for both squads slightly improved. PBHS held the lead at half, 15-13. Hilliard put up four. Elaina Newell scored a trey. Kali Alstrom and Tiana McGee had a basket each.

The third quarter was tough by Peabody-Burns. The Moundridge squad had some success from the outside and claimed the lead late in the period. Lady Warriors were down by five, 28-23, at the end of the third. Traci Windsor led with four. Kate Topham and Alstrom each had two.

PBHS was able to get within one, 40-39, with under a minute to play in the contest. Hilliard had seven in the quarter, including five free throws. Windsor had five. McGee and Alstrom each had a basket. Moundridge held off the Lady Warriors attack to take the win, 43-39.

Alstrom led the team with nine rebounds. Hilliard had seven and Newell grabbed six. Hilliard and Alstrom each had three steals.

Little River

The Lady Warriors played the Little River team close in the first quarter. Little River jumped out to an early lead, but the Lady Warriors came back taking the lead at the four-minute mark. Late in the period, Little River found the hoop and took a seven-point lead, 19-12, at the end of one. Hilliard had eight points and Alstrom had four.

The gap grew in the second with the PBHS squad only scoring five. Newell had two and Topham, Jessica Gillet, and Alstrom each added a free throw. Lady Warriors were down by 23 at the half, 40-17.

Defense came up big in the fourth. PBHS held Little River to three points. Lady Warriors put up 10. Hilliard had seven. Alstrom put in two and Topham added a free throw.

Little River offense came alive again in the fourth and dumped in 18. Lady Warriors put in 11, but were defeated, 61-38. Newell put in two treys in the fourth. Hilliard added five.
