Lawrence Travis

Lawrence E. Travis, 94, died Aug. 18, 2005, at St. Luke Living Center, Marion.

Born Jan. 29, 1911, at Runnymeade, he was the son of Milford and Thella (Grim) Travis.

He graduated from Conway Springs High School in 1930.

On March 8, 1942, he married Mary Ruth Yeagley at the Yeagley country home northwest of Marion.

During World War II, he worked at Beech Aircraft in Wichita. He later worked for Innes Department Store in Wichita and was a salesman for Monarch Grocery Company, selling groceries to stores throughout Kansas.

After retirement, he and Mary moved to Milton, where his brother and sister lived. They built a new home and were active at Milton United Methodist Church. In 1996, they sold their home and moved to Marion.

In 2005, he moved to St. Luke Living Center and Mary moved to Sunrise Townhomes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sylvan; and sister, Neva Rowan.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Marion; nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion, with Pastor Phil Morris officiating.

Jacqueline Cusick was soloist. Wanda Williams was pianist.

Casket bearers were Jeremy Drouhard, Ty Turner, Clint Turner, Corey Turner, Tab Turner, and Todd Turner.

Burial was in Marion Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established with Milton United Methodist Church or American Diabetes Association.
