Late donation means cash awards for winning floats

Float entrants to the annual Christmas parade got an unexpected surprise when they discovered that a late donation to Peabody Main Street meant cash awards for winning entries.

A check from the Peabody-Burns Recreation Commission for expenses related to the parade and visit from Santa was divided among the top four floats.

The Peabody historical society float took first place ($100) with its "Dinner with the Morgans" float. The Koslowsky family won $75 for the "Christmas in Iraq" float, and the $50 third place award went to the Peabody Achievers 4-H float "Home Cooking." The fourth place prize of $25 was won by Sunshine Preschool for its "Home for the Holidays" float.

In addition to the donation by the rec commission, Peabody State Bank provided candy for Santa to throw along the parade route and give to the youngsters visiting him after the parade.
