Lady Warriors win Division II tournament

The Lady Warriors triumphed Saturday over three league competitors to win the Heart of America League Division II tournament at Ell-Saline.

They beat Bennington in three games, 20-25, 25-21, 25-14. In game two, they defeated Ell-Saline in two games, 26-24 and 25-17. In the championship game, they beat Goessel in three games, 25-23, 9-25, 25-22.

The team is now 18-15 and will be on the court this weekend at Ell-Saline for substate action.

PBHS had a lead in game one at 13-8 but Bennington came back to score seven of the next 10 points. Game two was 21-21 and Julie Wedel served the last four points for the PBHS victory. Tabitha O'Neal served seven points to put the Lady Warriors ahead 18-8. They hung on for the win. Danielle Savage and Becki Morris had eight kills each to lead the attacking game. Bayleigh Clark had 19 assists.

Against Ell-Saline, Jessica Gillet and Clark teamed up to give PBHS the win, 26-24. In game two, Morris served the first eight points. They went on to win 25-17. Savage had eight kills and Wedel had five. Again, Clark played solid with 19 assists.

Wedel stepped up to serve seven points for a 13-11 lead in game one against Goessel. Goessel charged back to tie the game at 23. PBHS got the last two points and the win, 25-23. A complete breakdown for the Lady Warriors gave them a game two defeat, 9-25. In game three, PBHS came back from a six-point deficit early to take the game to a tie at 19-all. Clark set up Wedel for a kill to make the score 24-22. Morris ended the match with a kill on an assist from Clark. Clark had 18 assists. Kate Preheim had 19 digs. Morris had 10 kills and Savage had eight.
