Lady Warriors take win over Goessel

PBHS Lady Warriors avenged an earlier loss this season by defeating the Goessel Bluebirds Dec. 20. The squad claimed a huge league victory, 40-32. The Lady Warriors take a break until Jan. 7 when league play will resume at Pretty Prairie.

The Lady Warriors had good hustle in the first quarter, but were down by seven at the end of the period with the score standing at 12-5.

Marie Unruh started the second quarter scoring with a fast break basket. The Lady Warriors played tough defensively and stayed within six at the half, 21-15.

Lady Warrior reserve Shannon Welsh scored a huge two-point basket to give the Lady Warriors the lead in the third quarter, 23-21. The PBHS squad hung onto a one point lead at the close of the third and were up 27 to 26.

The game remained tight until the Lady Warriors opened a lead with just over a minute to go in the contest.

Casey Berger scored four free throws in the fourth and Gretchen Berns came up with a big block late in the game to secure the victory for the Lady Warriors.

The team downed the Goessel Bluebirds, 40-32.

"I'm happy," said Coach Kevin Washington. "This is the best this team has played in three years. I'm very proud of them."
