Lady Warriors take third at Olpe

Peabody-Burns High School Lady Warrior volleyball team finished a full homecoming week with a trip to Saturday for the Olpe tournament.

The team was third behind first-place finisher Central Christian and Olpe.

In the first match of the day against Marais des Cynes Valley, Jessica Gillet served the Lady Warriors to a 14-8 lead.

MDCV came back to take the lead and PBHS lost game one, 25-22.

Gillet again served to a five-point lead at 19-14, and PBHS held off a late run en route to a 25-23 victory.

Julie Wedel stepped up to serve in game three to take a four-point lead at 11-7.

Becki Morris and Danielle Savage combined to lead the front-row attack with nine kills.

Gillet had seven aces to ice the game and the match, 25-16.

Central Christian outscored the Lady Warriors early in both game of the second match, winning 25-11 and 25-16.

The Lady Warriors downed Northern Heights in game one of the third match, 25-21.

Gillet aided the cause by serving seven straight points.

Game two went to Northern Heights, 25-16.

Game three was a Lady Warrior victory, 25-15.

Bayleigh Clark had 19 assists in the match and helped the Lady Warrior hitters to the match victory.

Goessel won the first game of the fourth match, putting PBHS in a hole.

Morris took control at the service line in game two and served nine points.

The second game went to PBHS by a score of 25-16.

A tie at 15 made for a close third game, but Clark then served to a 23-17 lead.

PBHS held on to win 25-20.

Morris and Savage each had nine kills.

Game one against Olpe in the final match of the day went to the Lady Warriors, 25-20.

Game two was a 25-4 domination by Olpe, and despite Savage and Gillet combining for 13 kills in game three, PBHS fell 25-22.
